Paradise Cottage

This was a nice house with lots of room and close to the pool. The only issues were that there is no direct beach access. You have to walk to the public access which is another block or so. We called the office to find out the code for the Frangista Owners/Guests beach access and were told that we could not enter through that access. I think if you pay $2000 a week for a house, you should have the same access as the owners/guests. The same thing with the pool. The office was not giving up the code. We found out the code from some other people who were staying in a house next to the pool. Also--though minor, the non-stick pans in the kitchen were in horrible shape. We couldn't even cook with them and I'm a personal chef! I know that a lot of people are staying there and not treating the pans the way the owners would--but buying a new pan or two every few months would help. Overall--this is a nice house.

The home itself is lovely. It is beautifully decorated, kitchen is well-equipped and there are chairs and beach toys provided. There were, however, some inconveniences that should have been addressed by management before our arrival. First, there were several burned out light bulbs throughout the house. While there were extra bulbs in the laundry room, most of the lights were too high to reach without a ladder, which was not provided. One of the lights was in the toilet area of one of the bathrooms, meaning the door had to be left open or the user was in total darkness. One outside light in the front was burned out and both of the outside lights in the back were broken (one hanging by wires off the wall) which meant we had to grill by flashlight (which we luckily had with us). When we arrived, there were numerous trash bags we had to step over to get into the house and most were torn apart and trash was strewn along the side of the house. We cleaned it up ourselves and put the trash out for pickup. From then on, nightly some animal got into our trash can and left a mess we had to pick up. We began keeping the trash inside. There should be something done to address this - lids that lock on or a larger bin with a secure lid outside. Also, there were not nearly enough towels for a beach home that sleeps that many people. One other complaint is that when we arrived for our stay, there was no gate on the beach access walkway, yet halfway through our stay a gate suddenly appeared. No one contacted us with a code. We had to wait around outside the gate and a passerby gave us the code. Lastly, the house was not entirely clean. My two year old found an old, moldy brownie under the chair in the living room and lots and lots of dust and debris under the couch. The furniture really needs to be moved and cleaned under. While we loved the home itself and the location, we will be hesitant to stay there again simply because of the way management handles this home.

My three sisters and niece spent a week in June 2009 at the Paradise Cottage. It was only a block and half from the beach and the neighborhood pool was one house away. Each of the bedrooms had spacious bathrooms. The kitchen and living room were very comfortable. We would definitely stay there again.

This is our favorite place that we've stayed in Destin. The home is spacious and was very clean with everything in working order. There were six of us including two small children and so the four bathrooms were ideal. We loved the decks and the outdoor shower. Our kids loved the (very busy) pool, accessible via a semi-private "secret" walkway behind the house. About thirty seconds from the door to the pool gate. It takes a few minutes to walk the couple blocks to the beach, but it's a great location. (The closets are well stocked with lots of beach chairs and toys too.) The only noise we encountered during our stay was from the screams of people having fun in the pool during the day (and we enjoyed that!). We cook in a lot while traveling and found everything we needed in the kitchen. It was nice not to have to rush out to buy lots of extra stuff; we had everything we needed. We've stayed at much more expensive places that came with two pans, broken freezers, and malfunctioning sinks so we were very happy. We hope to return to this house one day and had no complaints of any kind. Thank you for a lovely home!
