Holiday Cheer in Destin

Holiday happenings are taking place all along the Emerald Coast of Florida and the best part is that many of these festive Destin, FL activities benefit charity. For those arriving to your South Walton and Destin vacation rental, the weekend festivities begin with Sounds of the Season at Village Baptist Church on Friday at 7 p.m. Presented by the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation, this amazing Christmas Chorus is a collaboration of four Destin churches and includes ensembles, solos and duets that are sure to put you in the holiday spirit.

On Saturday, Dec. 8, the hard part is deciding which celebration to enjoy. For our active visitors, the 2nd Annual Luminaria Run takes place at 5 p.m. at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort and benefits the Shelter House. The special twilight run, featuring a 5K and 9K course, will have 2,000 luminaries lighting the path to the finish line where you'll enjoy s'mores and hot cocoa. Those who enjoy a slower pace, the Christmas Tour of Homes at Kelly Plantation features some of the most beautiful homes in Kelly Plantation decorated for the holidays. A benefit for the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation, this festive tour (5-8 p.m.) begins at the Owner's Clubhouse with light refreshments and Christmas carols.  This event gives guests a sneak peek into Destin's exclusive gated community, Kelly Plantation--a nice bonus if you're in the market for a coastal home of your own. Last but certainly not least, the 26th Annual Lighted Boat Parade will take place  on Sunday, Dec. 9 at HarborWalk Village at 5:30 p.m. This classic coastal holiday event features boats of all sizes, including some of the Destin fishing fleet decked out in holiday decor. The parade can be viewed from the docks and restaurants at HarborWalk Village. A fireworks show donated by HarborWalk Village will light up the sky at the end of the boat parade.
