5 Tips to Beach House Style for your Destin rental or home

We know you love the beach, and perhaps you own a home in Destin or South Walton or are considering purchasing a beach home in the future or simply want to bring the beach to your home in the city. Either way, by incorporating coastal decor in your Florida beach home or primary residence miles away from your favorite piece of paradise, it is an easy way to bring value to your real estate investment while providing you the feeling of being at the beach year round. We've compiled 5 tips to bring beach house style to your Destin investment property or primary residence:

Start with color
While bright colors may be the norm in the Caribbean, the favored palette throughout Destin and South Walton features muted tones borrowed from sand, sea and sky. Think sand-toned neutrals, like whites (ah, that sugar sand!) and pale beiges and taupes. Or the blues and greens of the crystal Gulf water - cerulean, turquoise and aqua.

Add furnishings
When it comes to upholstered furniture, nothing says coastal like a comfy casual slipcovered sofa. Though white cotton duck is the most popular, slipcovers in the hues mentioned above can add come color and interest to a white room. Don’t forget accent pillows in various shades of blues and greens. Consider a natural wicker accent chair, or maybe painting wood pieces like accent tables, chairs or the entertainment center in the colors mentioned above, to add to the room’s casual feel.

Dress windows and walls
Though your windows might not offer the sweeping Gulf views of your favorite beach getaway, you can still dress them in the same way. Think outside the white-wood-blinds box, and try bamboo roman shades or louvered shutters. And nothing says “beach” like white sheer curtains blowing in a gentle breeze. Finish the look with the uniquely beautiful artwork you picked up on your last beach vacation. Didn’t have time to browse for art? On your next visit, head to one of Destin or South Walton's many art galleries to appreciate the wide range of creative talent along our coast.

Don’t forget the floors
Sandy feet and wet towels make carpeting a no-no in beach houses. Instead, hardwood floors and tile are the flooring of choice. Add texture and interest with area rugs; think sisal or braided rugs in muted tones. Whatever you choose should be soft on bare feet and easy to clean and maintain.

Add accents
Use a clear hurricane lamp to hold seashells collected through the years. Position vintage glass bottles in shades of blues and greens on the bookcase. Place a weathered wood tray atop the coffee table. Of course, the best accents are the photos capturing your favorite beach memories.
