Destin Day Trip to the Pensacola Naval Museum

If you are looking for something fun to do on a rainy day or even a beautiful day on the Emerald Coast, consider a day trip to Pensacola to visit The Naval Museum.  The Naval Museum is the largest museum of its kind in Florida. With 150 restored aircrafts from the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Aviation, this museum is fun for all ages.

Since the beautiful Emerald Coast has many surrounding military bases, we take pride in that and The Naval Museum is a local favorite. It is a vital part of our history and culture in Northwest Florida. Pensacola is also home of the famous Blue Angels and if you’ve never seen one of their air shows, it is absolutely breathtaking. You can drive over or take a boat. If you don’t have a boat of your own, consider renting one. There are many local vendors that rent boats that we can recommend.

If there is not an air show while you’re in town, consider viewing a Blue Angels practice session. Practices are held in Pensacola most Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from March to November. Practices normally begin at 11:30 a.m. and last about an hour. Admission to practice is FREEand open to the public.

The outside viewing area for the Blue Angels practice is located on the Museum Flight Line north of the Museum. They have signs posted to direct their visitors to viewing and parking locations. The Flight Line offers bleacher seating for 1,000 people.  Chair service is also provided at each practice session and they have a limited quantity of chairs that are available for a fee of $3 per chair and good for that day’s practice session. They offer concessions (bottled water, sport drinks, light food and treats) and merchandise is also available with proceeds benefiting the Museum and Foundation programs.

For your safety, remember to use sun protection. Hearing protection is recommended for those people with sensitive hearing. There is also an ID check for all visitors 16 years old and over so don’t forget your driver’s license or passport. And for everyone’s protection, backpacks, daypacks, luggage, or similar items are NOT allowed on the flight line during Blue Angel practice air shows.  Small purses, bags containing medications, and diaper bags are allowed, but are subject to search by Naval Air Station Pensacola Security personnel.

Admission is FREE and there are several IMAX experiences to choose from and those ticket prices vary from Free to $9.00 for single movie. You can purchase multiple movies for $14.  The Navel Museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST. For more information visit http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/
