Dog Friendly Destin

We’re fond of our furry friends and we were recently reminded how much the South Walton and Destin community loves dogs. At Newman-Dailey, we have an array of pet-friendly Destin vacation rentals. From beach homes to the charming Beachside Inn in Crystal Beach, there are opportunities for guests who want to bring Fido to find a comfortable home-away-from-home at the beach.

While only residents with a permit are allowed to bring their leashed dog onto the beach, there are lots of dog-friendly locales to go for a walk, play catch or dine alfresco.

For those staying along Scenic 98, the walking path that meanders east and west overlooking the beach is one of our favorite places to take Fido for a walk. And for those staying along Scenic 30A, the paved Timpoochee Trail is a safe scenic place to take Rover for a walk.
South Walton and Destin state parks, including Henderson Beach, Topsail Hill State Preserve and Grayton Beach State Park, feature nature trails, which provide visitors a rare glimpse of the coastal dune ecosystem and are pet friendly.

Or head over to one of the area’s off-leash dog parks. In Destin, the Destin Dog Park is located at 4100 Indian Bayou Trail and includes approximately 3-acres, including separate areas for large and small dogs. In Walton County, the Bark Park is located on JD Miller Road off Hwy 98 (one block west of Hwy 331 & Hwy 98) and features 2-acres of safe, fun space for your canine to roam.

There are also 13 dog-friendly restaurants in the Destin area with water bowls and in some cases a doggie menu. Our friends at BringFido.com have compiled Destin’s dog-friendly restaurant list, which includes Camille’s Café at the Beachside Inn, Dewey Destin’s Seafood, Boshamps Seafood & Oyster House in Destin, Hammerhead’s in Sandestin and Jim & Nick’s BBQ, among many others.

So don’t leave the furriest member of your family at home, bring Fido to Destin and enjoy the Florida sunshine and great places to play.
