New 30A Glass Deer Glassblowing Studio Offers Fun for All Ages

Are you a fan of blown glass art? Are you amazed at the works of art created by American Glass Artist Dale Chihuly? If you answered “yes”, you’re going to love the 30A Glass Deer Glassblowing Studio near Destin, Florida.

Owner and artist Brit Deslonde, started her career in 2007. Her training with glass artists led her to a 7-year apprenticeship with local glass artist, Russ Gilbert, owner of Fusion Art Glass in Seaside. Over the years, she honed her skills, and now produces a wide range of pieces, from small objects to large commissioned glass art creations. With a desire to share her passion for glasswork with others, she opened the Glass Deer in Santa Rosa Beach in the art warehouse district along CR 393.  Here’s a look at the type of glass art classes Brit and her team offer:

Fusing Workshops

This is a great option for families. Fusing involves taking cold pieces of glass and arranging them in artistic designs and pictures, and placing the work in a kiln to fuse. This relaxing, enjoyable form of glasswork is ideal for families with children, girls groups and bachlorette parties (great to pair with wine), and corporate team events. Workshops and classes are available weekly and special technique classes are available monthly.

Flamework Sessions

The art of flameworking is an exciting and challenging way to create detailed works of art and sculptures with hot glass. Sitting at a table and using a torch, participants learn to manipulate and shape the glass into a variety of forms. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced glass artist, the flamework sessions will allow you to create stunning and intricate pieces of glass art.

Glassblowing Classes

Blown glass art that most people think of, like that of Chihuly, is created by blowing glass in a hot shop. Whether you are a first-timer or looking to expand your skills, the talented and experienced instructors at The Glass Deer help guide participants through the glassblowing process. This incredible hands-on experience begins with an overview of the glassblowing process, followed by a series of exercises that take participants through the process of heating and cooling molten glass in the furnace. By using tools and techniques taught by Brit and her team, each participant can create an amazing work of art. Popular beginner items include scotch glasses, bowls, vases, paperweights, ring holders, spun plates, and tumblers. Prepare to be WOWED and walk away with a sense of empowerment and accomplishment.
