The Tarpon Beach Access is located on the T of Tarpon Street and Scenic Highway 98. At the front of the access you can find a bike rack, bench, and a rinsing shower. Down a set of stairs brings you to the sugar white sandy beach. This access holds room for a large stretch of public land. Bring your own chairs, blankets, or tents and enjoy a day overlooking the beautiful crystal waters of the Emerald Coast. There is limited parking around this area, so if you see an open spot be sure to grab it! The access itself is free to the public.

Tarpon Beach is a highly valued access by the City of Destin due to the great strides that have recently been made for this location. In February of 2023, the City partnered with the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners, the Trust for Public Land, and the Tourist Development Council to begin a demolition project on the beachfront land. The goal is for the over 340 ft block of land to become an area where locals and tourists can come to enjoy the beautiful waters. The demolition aspect was brought in so that the buildings blocking the view of the ocean were brought down. Now, those passing by are able to enjoy a clear shot of the water.

The next step for Tarpon Beach is to build parking and restrooms for the public. Until then, residents and tourists can enjoy the newly opened view.

Before heading to the beach, know the surf conditions by taking note of the colored flag system.

Double red flags mean the water is closed for swimming due to powerful rip currents that can sweep even the strongest swimmers out to sea. Stay safe, check today’s conditions on our Beach Safety page.
