It's a Coastal Christmas in Destin

The holiday season has arrived and with it comes a host of festive activities along the coast filled with holiday cheer! It wouldn't be Christmas in Destin without the annual Boat Parade.On Sunday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m., boats will line up at HarborWalk Village decked out in holiday decor and twinkling lights for the 2013 Destin Harbor Boat Parade. Families will enjoy live music, children's arts and crafts and hot chocolate while watching the parade of brightly lit boats make their way along the Destin Harbor.  

Get in the spirit while supporting local charities. There are several holiday events along the Emerald Coast that benefit local charities. On Friday, Dec. 6, the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation's Sounds of the Season will bring together community choirs from six Destin churches for a celebration of holiday music. The annual Christmas Concert will be held at Village Baptist Church at 6 p.m. and admission is an unwrapped toy. Donations will benefit MKAF's educational outreach programs, bringing art and cultural enrichment to area youth. 

On Dec. 7, the Harbor will be shining with designer decorated Christmas trees and wreaths. Families can bid on their favorite and proceeds benefit the Children's Advocacy Center and Horizons of Okaloosa County. 

Now through Dec. 25, the Festival of Trees in Grand Park in Grand Boulevard at Sandestin allows local charities to compete for up to $5000 in cash prizes. With more than a dozen uniquely decorated Christmas trees from area non-profit organizations, the public is invited to purchase a ticket and vote for their favorite to benefit charity.
