Mardi Gras at Destin Harbor, Feb. 7

The Gulf Coast is rich in traditions and one of our favorite is Mardi Gras. While New Orleans is best known for this festive celebration, the tradition is celebrated in communities along the Gulf Coast, including Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Mardi Gras, French for Fat Tuesday, is the day of revelry before Ash Wednesday. But the revelry and parades begin weeks in advance of the big day.

In Destin, HarborWalk Village will host the 7th Annual Mardi Gras Parade on Feb. 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. More than 100 parade entries will roll, float, pedal and push their way down the Destin Harbor Boardwalk from Aj’s Seafood and Oyster Bar to the west end of HarborWalk Village. Watch for the Destin Chamber of Commerce float, and wave to some of the friendly faces from the Newman-Dailey team. Street performers, brass bands, live music and colorful throws (beads) will be featured at the parade and live music will continue on the HarborWalk Village main stage.
