Gulfarium Opens Renovated Stingray Exhibit

Looking for fun things to do with the kids in Destin? Consider checking out the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park. With their new baby dolphin and renovated Stingray Bay, it is definitely worth the trip.
If you watch National Geographic, you probably know that stingrays like to bury themselves in the sand on the seafloor, camouflaging themselves from predatory sharks.  At the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park, guests have the opportunity to get up close and personal with these amazing creatures at their renovated habitat “Stingray Bay”
The renovations include a new underwater coating inside the exhibit as well as the addition of substrate gravel at the bottom so these animals can bury themselves in the sand.
A new roof structure rated for winds up to 150 mph, provides welcome shade for the rays and helps control water temperature. They’ve also added new landscaping, showcasing unique dune vegetation that is natural along the Emerald Coast.
For an added fee, guests can participate in the Stingray Bay Snorkel Encounter. During the snorkel experience, participants enter the water with cownose rays, southern stingrays, bonnethead sharks and white-spotted bamboo sharks. The experience is a safe way to closely observe these marine animals. The rays barbs are trimmed regularly and the sharks are bottom feeders and pose no threat to passing swimmers.
