Destin Veterans Day Events Honoring Military Heroes

With several military bases in the area, including Eglin Air Force Base, Hurlbert Field and Tyndall Air Force Base, the Destin community loves and honors our service men and women. And for Veterans Day, it is only appropriate that there are a variety of celebrations along the Emerald Coast that recognize and celebrate their service. In addition, the team at Newman-Dailey honors military families year-round with a special Military Discount. Active and retired military personnel receive 10% off any South Walton or Destin vacation rental. Here are the leading Veteran's Day events in Destin:

Friday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. Fort Walton Beach Medical Center is hosting a Veteran’s Day program honoring all veterans. Retired US Airforce Officer Nathan Nelson, who currently serves as the Deputy Military Affairs Officer for the 1st Congressional District of Florida will serve as the keynote speaker at this special celebration. Address: 1000 Mar Wall Dr., Fort Walton Beach, FL

On Saturday, Nov. 11 Legnedary Marina hosts the Emerald Coast Honor Games. This fun day of competition and honor will begin with Ruck 22 at 5:30 a.m. Approximately 22 veterans commit suicide every day. To honor these heroes, the community has the opportunity to engage, interact, and join area soldiers in an honorary “Ruck March” entailing 22 full laps around Destin Middle School’s track.

Immediately following Ruck 22, an opening ceremony, complete with the National Anthem, raising of the Colors, invocation, special guest speakers, and a moment of silence, will kick off the honor games, which begin at 9 a.m. Hundreds of competitors will then embark on a day of strength, conditioning, and grind during four major fitness competition events.

LuLu’s Destin will be hosting an “Honor Breakfast” open to the community. Guest speakers such as Congressman Matt Gaetz, Representative Mel Ponder, and members of the Special Operations Survivors will also be joining the breakfast. Doors open at 7:15 a.m. and tickets are $10 at the door.

The Emerald Coast Honor Games competition begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. and will feature four major events that will be completed in teams of two. The competition will also feature two categories, “RX/Elite” and “Scaled/Challenger.”

Family, friends, and spectators are encouraged to come out and watch this amazing spectacle and honor our veterans. Emerald Coast Honor Games is sure to provide everyone an opportunity to show our pride and patriotism. Click here to learn more.
