Taylor Swift Sings About Destin, Florida In Her New Song, Florida!!!

Destin, Florida never sounded as good as when Taylor Swift sings it! With the launch of her new album, “The Tortured Poets Department”(TTPD), one soundtrack caught the attention of every Floridian. The song called, Florida, is a collaboration with Florence + The Machine and is getting lots of buzz around the Sunshine State and especially residents and fans of Destin, Florida.

The suspense-filled track builds drawing listeners in with lyrics like…

“Little did you know, your home's really only a town you're just a guest in So you work your life away just to pay for a timeshare down in Destin Florida! Is one hell of a drug Florida! Can I use you up?”

For Florence’s part, she references “And the hurricane with my name, when it came, I got drunk and I dared it to wash me away.”

Why did Taylor write a song about Florida?

With this album focused on the pain of break ups, the song references Florida as a place to run away from problems and start over. Taylor’s lyrics “I need to forget, so take me to Florida/ I've got some regrets, I'll bury them in Florida” underscore the escapism that Florida brings.

Taylor recently shared “Florida!!!’ is a song that I wrote with Florence and the Machine, and I think I was coming up with this idea of like, What happens when your life doesn’t fit or your choices you’ve made catch up to you and these harsh consequences and judgment surround you, and circumstances did not lead you to where you want to be and you just want to escape from everything you’ve ever known. Is there a place you could go?”

Taylor was also reported as saying “I’m always watching like Dateline—people, you know, have these crimes that they commit. Where do they immediately skip town and go to? They go to Florida, you know? They like try to reinvent themselves, have a new identity, blend in.”

“And I think when you go through a heartbreak, there’s a part of you that thinks, I want a new name, I want a new life, I don’t want anyone to know where I’ve been or know me at all. And so that was the jumping-off point behind, Where would you go to reinvent yourself and blend in? Florida.”

Why is Florida like a drug?

We believe coming to Destin, Florida is addictive. Once you visit, it’s hard not to immediately begin planning your return trip. Once beach lovers place their toes in the area’s powder soft sand beaches and enjoy days relaxing, playing and laughing with friends and family, they quickly crave a return trip.

A recent visit by a Cincinnati Mom had her call us on her drive home to say “We want to plan a return trip for my husband’s birthday in July. We are in love with Destin and will all be coming back and brining more family friends!”

Plus, Florida’s adrenaline-producing activities give visitors to Destin an extra rush. Whether you’re feeling the “high” of being 400-500 feet in the air on a parasail adventure or lifting off in a helicopter, there are plenty of action-packed experiences to enjoy along Florida’s Gulf Coast. Whether you experience the rush of reeling in a big catch on a fishing charter offshore or the extreme joy of having a personal encounter stand up paddle boarding with a pod of dolphins or the excitement of swimming with sting rays or dolphins at the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park, there are exciting adventures around every corner.

Taylor’s Connection to Destin

So why of all the cities in the Sunshine State, did Taylor pick Destin? While we’re not 100% sure of the answer, we’ve heard that this is where her family vacationed when Taylor was a child.

Destin and 30A have been Nashville’s beach for decades and it wouldn’t surprise us if this was one of Taylor’s childhood beach vacation spots. It was probably an escape to come here and now has become the city that she heralds in her new song, “Florida!!!”.

Are there a lot of timeshares in Destin?

We can only assume Taylor’s family may have invested in a timeshare in which multiple owners share the responsibilities and the right to use a property as a vacation home under a sharing agreement. A better way to invest in and visit Destin is with a vacation rental.

Vacation rentals allow guests the use of a private residence by renting it from the owner. The Destin and 30A area has been a pioneer for vacation rentals and has one of the largest concentrations of vacation rentals in the country. And while many turn to Airbnb to find their next vacation rental home, property management companies such as Newman-Dailey are the best source of rentals in the Destin area. For more than 39 years, Newman-Dailey’s local experts have helped families plan and celebrate time together at the beach.

One thing is for certain, when you visit Florida, you tend to feel happier, lighter, and healthier. And as Taylor sings, for some “Florida!!!” is “one hell of a drug.”
