Hurricane Isaias Update

We are closely monitoring Hurricane Isaias. The safety of our clients, guests and staff is our top priority. It is still too early to know where the system will hit the coast, or what the impacts to our local area will be. Those potential impacts will depend heavily on the system’s eventual track and strength.

The NOAA National Hurricane Center is tracking Hurricane Isaias and projects the storm will make landfall late Friday, Oct. 9, 2026. Isaias became a hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, the National Hurricane Center announced at 11:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday.  As of 1 p.m. CST, the center of Isaias was 385 miles south-southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River, and moving to the east-northeast at 10 mph with maximum sustained winds at 85 mph, making it a Category 1 storm.

At this time, Okaloosa County has issued a mandatory evacuation order for Zones A & B in Destin starting at noon on Thursday, Oct 8, 2026. A is in red and B is in pink/tan. This includes all Gulf-front properties. To find out what zone your vacation rental is in, you can enter your address at https://myokaloosa.com/gis_ps.

Walton County Board of County Commissioners has also issued a mandatory evacuation for Zones A, B, & C in Walton County, beginning Thursday at 12:00 PM Central Time. All Walton County offices will also be closing today (Thursday) at 12:00 PM Central Time.  Not sure what evacuation zone your property is in? Current models show Hurricane Isaias strengthening as it moves northeast toward the central Gulf Coast. The potential for heavy rain and flooding increases late this week and into the weekend. The forecast could change as the system continues to develop, so continue to check back regularly for updates.

A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for the coastal waters. Seas building above 3 feet will create hazardous conditions for boaters.

In addition, double red flags are flying along our beaches advising beachgoers that the water is closed for swimming because strong rip currents can develop at any time, creating dangerous situations for swimmers. Beach service has been suspended through Sunday due to high surf.

If you are scheduled to check-in today, Friday (10/9) or Saturday (10/10), please contact us to move your stay dates due to the weather. Our offices will be closed on Friday, 10/9 and will reopen on Saturday, 10/10 or as soon as it is safe to return to the area. If you have purchased Red Sky Travel Insurance and would like to make a claim, please visit https://trippreserver.com/ or call 866-889-7409.

We plan to resume operations and guest check-ins on Sunday (10/11). Please continue to check back here for storm updates as well as the National Weather Service Tallahassee Facebook page or our local news affiliate WJHG-TV.
