Art Workshops in Grayton Beach

Next time you’re at the beach, consider unleashing your creativity. We did and we had a blast! The 2014 South Walton Artist of the Year, Mary Hong, recently opened the “Shard Shop.” Located next to the Mary Hong Studio Gallery in Grayton Beach, the new shop is specifically designed for art workshops.

Mary has been a trailblazer in the art community for more than a decade and has found a way to share her love of art and glass with world. When describing her art, Mary says “think glass meets canvas. It’s fine art mosaics with a twist of the unexpected.”

We fell in love with her coastal scenes, cool colors, beautiful glass and mixed mediums. Our group created two works of art for our upcoming fundraiser to benefit the South Walton Community Council and the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance for the protection of South Walton's rare coastal dune lakes. With our coastal-theme in mind, Mary and her team (Katie and Cindy) helped us create a vibrant seahorse and a Western Lake scene. We had a blast working together to meld colors, textures and special touches, including sea turtles in the lake and the perfect button eye for our sea horse.

The Shard Shop offers workshops daily from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., as well as takes reservations for custom projects and groups. Mary's classes are ideal for girlfriend getaways or bridal parties. Mary also offers children’s workshops for families.

Prices start at $85 for a 12x12 or 12x16 canvas using glass with resins. Completion takes one or two hours and finished artwork is available for pick up in 24-48 hours. Children’s sessions are $25 for each child artwork. Learn more about The Shard Shop and artist Mary Hong by visiting Mary Hong Studio website or call 850-231-1416.
