Tropical Storm Fred Brings Rain to Northwest Florida

Tropical Storm Fred is slated to make landfall today in Northwest Florida east of Walton and Okaloosa Counties bringing heavy rains and wind. We are expecting high surf (5 – 8 ft), gusty winds, and dangerous rip currents. On Monday, double red flags are flying all along the coast signifying that the beaches are closed for swimming. For the latest flag conditions, visit swfd.org.

The National Hurricane Center forecasts Tropical Storm Fred making landfall near Apalachicola, Florida at 10am. Click here to see the latest storm tracking. Monday will be rainy and visitors may want to plan to enjoy the day inside or view our blog with suggestions for things to do on a rainy day in Destin.

With the storm moving quickly north, we anticipate the beaches will reopen on Tuesday but the water will remain closed for swimming. Most beach services will resume on Tuesday and surf conditions should improve by Wednesday allowing for swimming near the shore.
