Hurricane Debby Update

Hurricane Debby is moving up Florida’s coast toward the Big Bend Region of Florida, which is approximately 115 miles east of Destin. While Hurricane Debby is bringing large amounts of rain and flooding to the Sunshine State, according to the Weather Channel, the forecast for the Destin area for Monday is for partly to mostly cloudy skies with only a 10-20% chance of rain. As the storm moves west, Destin is forecast for sunny skies and cooler temperatures on Tuesday.

Debby, which formed Saturday and became the fourth named storm of the season, strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane, the National Hurricane Center announced late Sunday. The storm tracker reported hurricane-force winds extend up to 45 miles from the center and tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles from the center.

The hurricane center forecasts landfall Monday morning in Florida’s Big Bend − where the state's panhandle meets its peninsula − somewhere between the Suwannee River south of Tallahassee and the Ochlockonee River in the Panhandle west of Tallahassee.

At this time, no warnings have been issued for the Destin area including Okaloosa or Walton Counties.
